The name David (generally pronounced "DAY-vid" in modern English, but also pronounced "Da-VEED" in other languages, such as those similar to - or originating from - Latin) is derived from the Biblical Hebrew name meaning "Beloved." The name occurs over 1000 times in the Hebrew Bible, making it the third most often-occurring name, after Moses and Abraham. -Wikipedia

The name David creates the urge to be creative and original, but we point out that it limits your versatility and scope, tuning you to technical details. This name, when combined with the last name, can frustrate happiness, contentment, and success, as well as cause health weaknesses centring in the head, and in the stomach and intestinal organs.
The first name of David has given you a very practical, hard-working, systematic nature. Your interests are focused on technical, mechanical, and scientific things, rather than interests of an artistic, musical, or social nature. You have a rather skeptical outlook on life and rather materialistic standards. In reaching your goals, you are very independent and resourceful, patient and determined. You can be so very positive and definite in your own ideas and opinions that others sense a lack of tact and friendliness in your manner of expression. -Kabalarians.com

I think David's name fits him very well. The analysis above is certainly pretty accurate. David is a scholar foremost, and does have a practical, almost cynical nature mixed with the curiosity to learn how things (and others) work and function. He is hardworking and determined, and we know that when he decides to be stubborn about something -- such as refusing Lestat's blood -- he is impossible to budge. He believes in order and method, and having had a much longer human life than any of the other characters has giving him a sense of patience and peace that is unique to him. The only thing here I'm going to disagree with is the mention of an occasional lack of tact. David is a proper British gentleman and would certainly be horrified by the very idea of not being tactful or polite.

The last name Talbot doesn't seem to have any special meaning. It's a very common English surname and the name of a British automotive company. Talbot is also the name of a realty company in New Orleans that deals frequently in historic properties. Any idea that this is where Anne picked up the name is purely speculation lol.
