David Talbot was born in 1917 in, we assume, Brittan. We know nothing about David's early life, but as a young man he had been an adventurer and an explorer, traveling the world and taking safaris to the deepest of jungles. To David, one of the most memorable events occurred on one of these excursions in Brazil, when he fell in love with the son of a Candomble priestess. Unfortunately, she was against David's relationship with her son, and she sent spirits after him. From this day forth, David was constantly harassed by these spirits. Unsure of how to help him, David's mother contacted the Talamasca, an order of 'Psychic Detectives'. The members of the Talamasca helped David to control the spirits, but he was fascinated by the powers of the Candomble priestess and wanted to posses them for himself. In pursuit of this, David returned to Brazil to study under the priestess and learn how to manipulate spirits. Once this was accomplished, ge then journeyed home to England and spent his life within the Talamascan Order, eventually working his way up to the position of Superior General. At the end of his mortal life, David was obsessed by a vision of God and the devil he had witnessed when he was much younger. He sought to 'crack the secrets of the universe' and turned his search for the answers to many questions toward the Bible. Meeting Lestat After the death of the vampire queen, Akasha, the Vampire Lestat learned from Jesse (a former member of the Talamasca), about David and decided to visit the Order's headquarters in London. Almost immediately, Lestat offered David The Dark Gift, but was refused by David, dispelling Lestat's theory that no mortal would refuse immortality. Despite David's initial refusal and his subsequent refusal thereafter, Lestat began to visit David regularly, reveling in their discussions. A fragile friendship was formed and David became important to Lestat, who loved that David both knew of his true nature and accepted it. However, David's age was a matter that Lestat couldn't ignore. The fact that David was elderly and would soon die weighed heavily on his shoulders and he was unable to look at David without seeing Death, and spurred him to continually offer the Dark Gift to David, who continued to refuse it. |
