About

site history & name

Brat-Prince was opened in October, 2007 after several weeks of work. Once I'd made up my mind to start a VampChron site project, I was very surprised to find so many prime domain names available! I decided to go with 'Brat-Prince' mostly because it's easily recognizable as VC-related without being (in my opinion) lame. Obviously, there's also the association with Lestat, which I was hesitant over at first since I wanted to do a general site and not a Lestat tribute (much to his horror, I'm sure, he's not my favorite character), but he is after all the main character and so does his job as a representative front-man very well. Anyway, so that's about it. There were a few other name choices I waffled over- one in particular, but I won't tell you what it was since I may want to snatch it up at a later time~.

Why?

So why do a Vampire Chronicles site? Mostly, I got nostalgic. I've been a VC fan since 1996 and I ran a VC site a long, long time ago towards the end of the early days of internet fandom, as it was. I want to say it was around '99, and I think I closed it down in 2002. I'd tell you the name, but I highly doubt anyone really remembers it, as it was one in a pile back then. Well, by 2002 I'd long grown out of my vampire "phase" and moved on to much different things.

Recently though, in the spring of '07 and through a rather random series of events I won't get into, I realized I really missed the Chronicles and it's characters. After a re-read of the entire series, I went looking for the online fandom I remembered. And found it gone along with 99% of the sites, fanfic, and even people I used to know. Most everything I did find was horrifically out of date by at least 7 years, some still featuring the good ol' red-font on black-background single frame design complete with dripping blood bars and spinning pentacles circa 1997. Ouch.

Right, so since this is already getting ridiculously long, I'll wrap it up. I wanted to do a site that was reminiscent of what I remember. Informative and up to date but not just the basics anyone can look up in their copy of the Companion. Someplace to (hopefully) rediscover the creative site of fandom and a place to reconnect with old fans and meet the new ones. Something more than just an impersonal fanlisting. I know this site isn't the only good one still out there, I've come across some that are absolutely stunning in both design and content. But I hate how few and far between those are compared to other fandoms. So yeah, I guess I'm just trying to help bring it back. :D

who am I?

As I'm sure you've figured out, my name is Alanna, and yes it's my real name. I'm 25 and I live in Alabama. I'm a freelance artist and part-time student. In my free time I like to play old RPG video games, draw, read, work on websites, roleplay, and go to local rock shows. I'm also into historical costuming and I attend the Vampire Lestat ball every October in New Orleans. I have an affinity for pretty boys, gin and tonics, clove cigarettes, and loud music. That's pretty much all there is.
